The Best Wedding Gift Ever!

My best friend growing up is a great guy. We've been friends since I was 12. So, when he told me he was getting married, I wanted to give him something special. But how do you come up with an original wedding gift idea these days?

I started with the idea of giving him a gift relating to a place he loves: Savannah, Georgia. I'm not originally from Savannah, but moved here a few years ago to teach and further my career. My friend visited a few times and just fell in love with the place. So when I came across some artwork that a local painter was showing at a party, I knew I had the perfect wedding gift idea for my pal.

So I attended the wedding in Boston and the reception, although I didn't bring the painting because I had it shipped to them. So, it arrived after the happy couple returned from their honeymoon.

Little did I know the impact it would have. Almost a year later while vacationing with my friends, yes the guy and his new wife, I was stunned at how emotional both of them were about the painting I had given them.

It was merely a painting of a sunset in Savannah Georgia. Notable landmarks from the city were visible in the painting. Of course it's beautiful and I thought is was an amazing piece of artwork, but I was stunned to see them get so happy when they told me how great and how original my gift was.

While original artwork isn't something you can give every day, there may be a once in a lifetime momemt when the gift idea you need is something original and unexpected. Like the painting itself, the thought can be a beautiful gift idea.
