Take A Hint from the Wedding Couple!
My niece is getting married. Its hard to believe I am old enough to have a 23 year old niece who has found her true love but it is true (love that is) and wedding bells are in the air. That means. wedding gifts are on my mind… and on her porch… and on the truck on the way to her porch!
Well, I guess it’s just not wedding gifts. As a close relative, I get to go to all the showers and showers means gifts too! So, I guess I am not just looking for wedding gift ideas. I have to navigate my way through shower gifts before I can get to the wedding guest finish line! And you thought it was tough being a bride!
Okay, the search for wedding gifts can be difficult but, the hunt for the perfect wedding gift is even more difficult for relatives who have to spend time first searching for the perfect engagement gift, then wedding shower gifts, then bridesmaid’s luncheon gift, etc. Where do I begin? What is my budget?
I’ve come to a simple and profound conclusion as I have started down this happy hunting trial that ends when the bride-mobile heads off on the honeymoon. It is simple: get what they ask for. Couples can register everywhere (and do) and tend to actually spend a great deal of time browsing the internet picking out gifts they want. I have found it is easier than ever to pop onto a website and find that perfect gift for that perfect couple (whose names are Molly and Robi in my world).
It seems strange to me that we have easily learned this when birthday shopping and Christmas shopping but we tend to want to be unique and original (at least I do) and don’t want to operate solely off that list the bride and groom make while on the websites that offer those great Wedding Registry lists. But use it as a starting point.
For example, my niece picked out a great deal of Kitchen Aid things such as mixers and other appliances. So using that as a firm foundation, I decided for her kitchen shower to get her the cool utensils to match some of those appliances thus giving her things that relate to her list while not completely breaking the bank on at least one of the showers I have to attend.
I think that the bride and groom know best what they want and, even if they don’t, get what is on the list. It makes so much sense, is easy for them to return if they have to, easy for you to have it sent and all around makes gift giving easier… take a hint… the one the happy couple gives you!
